Today was the last day to get my submissions in for the Purple Onion Design Team. I've had so much fun working with Michele's stamps. I can hardly wait to be able to show you all what I've been up to. The design team should be announced some time the week of the 5th and I'll be waiting not so patiently for the results. I'm really happy with the work I created and I guess that's about all you can hope for at this point. Have you seen the official list of finalists?? Holy cow, it's big so I'm sure the decision will be tough.

As the title suggests I now have some free time to get to all the challenges I've been missing so much. I had to kick things of with Libby's From Courtney's Closet Challenge. Have you seen that adorable dress. Libby, you had me at red gingham...LOL!! I knew when I saw it that my new ribbon purchase would be making an apperance. I also used Jen's SFYTT for this card. The layout was perfect for what I had in mind. I had to make it a long card to accomodate the size of the scalloped squares. I'm really happy with my first return to challenges card. I'll be back tomorrow with some more (I'm on a roll :)!!!
Thanks for stopping by!

Clearly A Great Challenge

Well today's the first day I'm joining the design team at Sketches {by tamara} and I'm so excited. This challenge was a great one and I can't wait for next weeks. One of the "ingredients" is something I've been wanting to try and I'm super excited about it! This weeks challenge comes from Kathleen. Create a card or layout using the following items:

*Use something clear- clear transparency, clear button, ghost shape, etc.
*Stampin' dimensionals or something else to give your project dimension

I just bought a ton (and I mean a ton) of buttons so I knew I wanted to use my clear ones for this card. This card was one I thought up in the middle of a sleepless night and I like it for so many reasons. 1.) It used up some scraps (gotta love that). 2.) It was quick and easy and it's a layout I can't wait to use again. 3.) Well it my first official design team card!!!!!!!!!!

So I guess you want to see it huh?!?!
I'm really learning to love ribbon on my cards. I've always loved it on other peoples cards it just took me a while to get the hang of it. Learning to tie a pretty bow helped. And isn't it cute!!! I love it! Make sure you stop by and see what the other design team members came up with. They are all great!!! And try it out yourself. It's a great challenge. Make sure you post a link to your creation on the sketches blog.
Thanks for stopping by!

Toot, Toot....

Chugga Chugga Big Red Car!! Any Wiggle's fan's out there?!?! All my kids loved them but the OBSESSION truly began with my two year old. He has a Wiggle's blanket, Wiggle's clothes, Wiggle's Movies and they play ALL DAY LONG!!! This title made me think of this song, I couldn't help it...SORRY!!

Anyway, the Toot Toot isn't about the Wiggles it's some exciting news that I get to share with you! I was asked to be a guest designer for Sketches {by tamara} and today is my day so run over there and check it out.....BUT WAIT...there's more. She had an unexpected opening on her Recipe's Design Team and asked me if I would join. I was excited but honestly, I had no idea what a recipe challenge was...LOL!!! I hurried to her blog to check it out and OMG!!! I don't know how I've missed this every week. The recipe designer's takes turns picking three "ingredients" that have to be included on your card (or scrapbook layout). What fun!!! Once I knew what a recipe challenge was I IMMEDIATELY said yes. I applied to be on her sketches design team but didn't make it. This sounds just as fun and I'm excited to be joining in.

Okay so you want to see some cards now????

This card is my guest design card:
I used sketch #59 which is my favorite to date. I just love this sketch!!

So now you want to see my first recipe challenge card???? Sorry, you have to wait until Tuesday! That's the day the new challenges are posted. Don't miss it, I did for way to long!! It's a great challenge and it's been added to my sidebar underneath my favorite challenges!!

Have a great rest of the weekend and thanks for stopping by!!

Heart to Heart

So have you heard of Cammie's Heart to Heart Challenge?? In honor of her grandmother she put together a HUGE blog candy for World Alzheimer's Day. She lost her grandmother this year to the horrible diesease and has done so much already to help the Alzheimers Association. For those of you who don't know, Cammie (Carolyn King), is an illustrator for Gina K Designs. Her newest release was made in memory of her grandmother and 100% of her proceeds are being donated to the Alzheimers Association.
She issued a challenge to all of us to make a card for an Alzheimer's patient caregiver. You are welcome to mail it to someone you know or she has an address for the home here grandmother was in.
So I did say this was a blog candy too!! This blog candy has over $1000 worth of products donated by some amazing companies and names in the stamping world. You seriously have to go check it out. It's HUGE!!!!
So here's my card which will be in the mail to the address Cammie gave. I've personally never been affected by someone with alzheimers (thankfully)!
Thanks Cammie for being so generous and encouraging us to do the same!! You ROCK!!!!!
Edited to Add: She also has a prayer request for a family who just lost their 13 month old. Heartbreaking story. Please read it and keep them in your prayers!!

Gettin Krafty

Sorry for my absence this last week. I've been working on my submissions for Purple Onion and getting ready for a craft show this coming weekend. I have barely left my craft room today, (thanks babe for watching the kids!) but I had to squeeze in this Verve challenge. Missing this challenge was not an option for two reasons. 1) I LOVE VERVE!! Can't get enough. 2) I LOVE KRAFT CARDSTOCK!!! I ordered my first pack a few weeks ago and it's already half gone. I haven't made a card lately that doesn't have kraft on it. It such a great paper and everything looks great with it!!! I took my inspiration from a tote in the new Ballard Designs catalog. I love this catalog, I pour over every page each time it comes. I barely made it to page 3 of this catalog before this bee tote caught my eye. I knew right away what set would be perfect for this card. Serenity from Verve. It was my first set and still my one true love. I stamped the flower and sentiment in Chocolate Chip on a piece of 4 x 5.25 piece of kraft cardstock. To give it some texture I stamped SU's sanded background on it after I stamped it off twice. The apricot pieces were made with SU's word window punch cut in half. I threaded the twine through the card and tied it around the flowers. I frayed the edges for a softer look. I sponged the edges and then adhered it to a kraft card. I wanted the layer to be subtle. I think it worked!!!

Paper: Kraft, Apricot Appeal
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa
Accesories: Paper Piercer, Brads

Just A Simple Card!!!

This card was my first attempt at Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge but then at the last minute I added the sentiment on a strip at the bottom instead of the square like the sketch. I just love this sentiment and really wanted to use it. This card was inspired by Cambria's card for the sketch. I loved the flowers stamped directly on the designer paper and had to try it out. I stamped mine in Chocolate Chip and only went with three. I was going to stitch like she did and then got to!! I cheated and added the faux stitching along the side with my cuttlebug. I went over it with Whisper White Craft ink and a sponge dauber and love the effect. It really made it pop!! After I did that I had no place for the sentiment so the layout was sort of oopsed!!! That being said though I really like the way this turned out. These colors are so great. It wasn't until I posted this that I realized I'm in sort of a blue/brown mood!! I'll move on soon :)

Verve Diva Challenge 10

This was such a great challenge!!! Amy Westerman is the featured diva this week over at SCS and we had to pick three pieces of designer paper to use on our card. The catch was they needed to be pulled blindly from your scraps stash. I think I lucked out. I was so scared of some insane combo that I wouldn't be able to pull off. I think these three worked together pretty good. I sponged all the edges in Close to Cocoa and Chocolate Chip and it kind of bonded them all together. I took the picture at the right to show you how I keep my scraps. One is for SU cardstock scraps and the other is for designer paper scraps. If they are small enough to fit they go in the jars. If they are to large I put the cardstock together in a drawer and the dp in a basket on my desk. This works the best for me because they are out. If I tuck them away I would never use them. I'm completely anal about my organization and the cardstock scraps all are organized by color family :) Ain't it perty!!!
Anyway, I pulled the scraps from the jar and just cut the two vertical pieces the same length and glued them on. Easy peasy!!!
The Verve floral image was stamped in Chocolate Chip ink and repeated without reinking. I used copics to color in the flowers and just so happened to have the perfect three colors that actually looked like they were fading with the stems. For a final touch I ran the card through my Cuttlebug with the faux stitching and added some paper piercing.
I'm really surprised at how this card came together. Thanks Amy for such a wonderful trick!!!
Thanks for stopping by!!

Weekend Sketch Challenge

Wow, I actually got to Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge BEFORE the end of the weekend. That hardly happens. I usually get it done just not this quickly. I found my new favorite color combo with this card. Black, Brocade Blue and Kraft. Chocolate Chip will always be my must have color but Kraft is quickly becoming one too!! Together they are the perfect pair!!!
I used my long neglected set Just Celebrate. This set was available in the spring mini and I loved it when it first came out. It hasn't seen much use lately. This little snowman was inked for the first time for this card. I love the way he looks on the Kraft. I colored him with my white gel pen but this morning found a better way to color a snowman on Kraft. Check out {THIS POST} from Jill's Card Creations to see what I mean. I had to email her to find out just how she did it because her's look so much softer than mine. The trick.....a blender pen dipped in White Craft Ink!!!!!! Thanks so much Jill, I'll try it next time!!! It's hard to see in the photo but I used my sponge dauber to pounce in some snow for him to stand on. I stamped the sentiment along the bottom and pierced in between it and along the top. The gingham ribbon is so cute, isn't it!! I'm falling in love with it too!!!
Thanks for stopping by!!

Thanks Toni!!!

I was nominated today by a fellow blogger (and fellow Coloradan) for an award!! Toni has some amazing cards and also every now and then some great photos of life in the mountains. I myself like to visit the mountains, my husband would love to live there. I've shown hima few of Toni's pictures and he practically packed us up...LOL!! Make sure you stop by to visit her blog.

I'm passing this award on to:

Tammy Hershberger: I just won her fabulous blog candy and she's been sick...hopefully this helps cheer her up!!!
Courtney Fowler: She also has a terrific blog and just started up a weekly challenge. They had to recently evacuate because of the hurricane's so she's in my thoughts!!!

All three ladies are oozing with talent so check em out!!!!

Oh What A Day!!!!

WOO HOO!!! What a day. I woke up to find out that I won Tammy Hershberger's blog candy. I'll be getting MFT's new release Merry Christmas? I only have one MFT set so I'm super excited to be adding to my collection!! She has an amazing blog and I hope you all stop by to check it out. (I love her work:)
Also, my Purple Onion Stamps came today so I can start making my submissions for the design team. I won't be able to show you any until after the final decision is made :( I can't wait to get started, now if only life would slow down a bit and let me get to my new toys!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanted to give you all a heads up that my posting may be a little irregular while I work on my design team submissions!! I REALLY, REALLY want to make it so I'm planning on giving it my full attention for a little while. I do have some stuff done already that I will show you and hope to sneak in a challenge or two (at least my super faves). Thanks for understanding!!!!!
Have a happy weekend!!!!!

A Bucket of Apples!

WOW!! Green Galore is a color I definately won't be reaching for again anytime soon!! I tried to cover up as much as possible because this color is SO BRIGHT!!! This week's color challenge at Splitcoast was: Riding Hood Red, Going Gray (I used Basic Gray) and Green Galore. The only reason I decided to play was because I knew I could use my new Give Thanks set. Now don't get confused this is a retired set it's just new to me. Anyway, the image was colored with my copics and I love the way it turned out. The sure yet. Sometimes I like it and other times I wish I had just skipped the color challenge. I do really love this gingham ribbon however and it was what saved it from the trash in the end. Thanks for stopping by!

Some REALLY Happy News!!

I've been literally giddy for about a week now. I made the finalist list to be a designer for Purple Onion Designs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I usually check out the design calls on splitcoast but none so far have interested me. I mean if you don't like the stamps, why apply!! Purple Onions caught my eye right away. I was really nervous to submit (first try at a design team) but I got an email from Michele last week telling me I'm a finalist. I had to wait until she posted the list on her blog to annouce it here!!!! Now I will be getting some Purple Onion stamps and I have until September 30th to WOW her with what I can do. (Finger's crossed) I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

Red, White and Blue

I love it when a card comes together just perfect!! I love everything about this one. It started out as an inspiration challenge card for Libby's From Courtney's Closet and then I decided to also follow Jen's Sketch For You To Try. Why not, two in one. Then I remembered this week's Color Throwdown challenge is also red, white and blue. Make that three in one ;)
The stamps were a must have for this card since they are new. A friend of mine and I got to spend last Saturday kidless, shopping at Archivers!!!! I picked up this set from Stampendous there. I love these flowers and it comes with a bunch of sentiments that fit in the little flower box. I was going to add an oval (like the sketch) to break up the navy background and then realized the flower box kind of already did that so I left it. I'm totally digging this color combo and I love using that red polka dot paper. It's definately some of my favorite.

Thanks for stopping by!

Paper: denim (paper studio), red polka dot (my minds eye)
Ink: Black, Copics

Monochromatic Bella Set

I'm really behind on all my favorite challenges. Last weeks color challenge at SCS was to make a monochromatic card. Well, I cheated!! I made this set when I got my shipment of new stamps (last month) and just haven't posted it here yet. I used the new Bella Toile background and it is my favorite of all the background stamps. I have a hard time using these stamps sometimes. Getting even pressure and getting the image to stamp solid is tricky with the backgrounds sometimes. This one was easy, peasy and I LOVE IT!! The card colors are Old Olive, So Saffron, Elegant Eggplant, and Real Red. I used my Marvy Giga Square Punch to back all the dreams stamps. Each one uses Close to Cocoa. Since I made these so long ago I can't remember if I used the Whisper White or Very Vanilla Tafeta Ribbon. BAD BLOGGER! :(

Thanks for stopping by!!
Stamps: Bella Toile, Dreams Du Jour
Paper: Old Olive, Real Red, So Saffron, Elegant Eggplant, Very Vanilla
Ink: Old Olive, Real Red, So Saffron, Elegant Eggplant, Close to Cocoa
Accesories: Taffeta Ribbon, Marvy Giga Square Punch

Sunflower Sketch

I made this card for Sketches {by tamara}. I knew right away that I was going to like this sketch. The panels in the back are such a great idea!! I alternated between two different dp from My Mind's Eye and backed them with Close to Cocoa. I resisted the urge to ink the edges and am glad I did. I really like the simple lines of this card.
I used my newly aquired set Give Thanks which is a retired SU set. As I was flipping through the old catalog I was kicking myself for not getting it. I traded another SU set for it on Splitcoast and love it so far!!!! Thanks for stopping by!!
Stamps: Give Thanks, Birthday Whimsy
Paper: So Saffron, Close To Cocoa, My Minds Eye
Ink: Stazon Black, Basic Black, Copics
Accesories: Apricot Appeal Grosgrain Ribbon

One Sheet Wonder Challenge

Verve is having another release party tomorrow night on the Splitcoast forums and Julee gave us a challenge to win some Verve prizes!!! We had to use one double sided 6x6 sheet of paper (with specific cuts) to make 4 cards for 4 sketches. I choose the new SU Bella Rose dp and In Colors. All the cards were made with the Floral Whimsy set except for the first one. I added a sentiment from Feeling Groovy too.
Card 1 Card 2
Card 3

Card 4
I can't decide which card is my favorite. It's a toss up between card 2 and card 3. I really like the layout on card 3 but I don't care for the ribbon I picked for the button. Card 2 is so simple, hardly any layers but I really like it. What do you think???

A Litte Something

I have a baby shower next week for a cousin who is having a baby boy and I needed a card. I wanted it to be a cute card but not too feminine. I chose this decorative paper from My Minds Eye that I thought would be perfect. Only by luck did things line up so perfect between the layers. Even the little onesie matches up with the stripes. I used my retired SU set Big on Spring. The stamp says "let the cute begin" but I really wanted to use the "little something" sentiment from Best Yet so I taped off the part I didn't want so I could just have the word cute. I inked all the edges in Close to Cocoa to distress everything. I hope she loves it!!
Stamps: Big On Spring, Best Yet
Paper: Bashful Blue, Close to Cocoa, My Minds Eye
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa
Accesories: SU Scallop Circle Punch

You Gotta See This!!

You have to go to Paper Askew Studio and watch Pamela's Friday Card Flick!! I mentioned to her that my girls love to watch her videos and this week she gave us all a shot out!! The girls were thrilled and the card is super cute. Macy want to know when I'll make one just like it!!!
Thanks Pamela!!!!

Groovy Polka Dots

YEAH!!! Another Mojo sketch and this one was fun. Although I goofed it a little and didn't realize it until I was writing this post. My decorative paper is a little to big, there was suppose to be space on each side. Dang, guess I have to try again ;) I really like this sketch. It's really similar to one of my faves from the Anni-Verve-Sary challenges. I don't usually do very good with angles but this one turned out alright. I added the brads to the angled piece and really like the simplicity of this card. However, I was having a brain fart when I stamped the stems. Black?!?!? Why not green?!?! Oh well, just another reason to try again.
I colored the flowers with my Riding Hood Red reinker and my blender pens. Since SU doesn't make markers in the In Colors I made a temporary one. I added a drop of ink to the lid of my stamp pad and soaked up some ink with my blender pens. It works well, just be sure to clean the blender when your done by writing on a scratch sheet of paper until the pen writes clear.

Thanks for stopping by!

Bella Scraps

I love the new Bella Rose Paper! I passed on ordering it during the pre-order and was totally kicking myself. I loved it and thought I could do without. I'm so glad I got some. Every pattern is great. I used up a lot of scraps for this card because I hated to let any piece go to waste. The layout is for this weeks sketch at 2 Sketches 4 You. I really liked this sketch. The way Kazan drew it made it easy to interpret it however you wanted and the design teams cards are AWESOME!! The card by Carla totally rocks, I've saved it to case!!!
I added some random machine stitching to the scraps and a plastic white flower with a prima. The card size is 4.25 x 4.25 because I wanted to try Pamela's trick with the envelope. It worked perfect only I forgot to take a pic of the envelope. I used the same flower punch and added a strip of Riding Hood Red.Thanks for stopping by!
